Shades of Route 66

June 27 – September 28, 2025 in the Project Gallery

Shades of Route 66: Celebrating Diversity along Arizona’s Historic Route 66 in the State of Arizona explores, documents, and share stories of the underrepresented voices of people and their communities who contributed to the diverse cultural and socioeconomic landscape along Route 66 through Arizona. The final product of the project, a digitally accessible “StoryMap” using ArcGIS, provides a well-rounded and inclusive history of Route 66’s planning, construction, and development using anthropological and decolonial lenses. Shades of Route 66 was produced and sponsored by Cline Library at Northern Arizona University and funded by the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona. Coconino Center for the Arts is honored to serve as a satellite venue for the dissemination of this project, and to share the diverse history of Route 66 during its Centennial celebrations.
