She has won national awards for her reporting and writing including a national Edward R. Murrow award for her coverage of Arizona’s deadliest fire and a PRNDI award for her podcast “Earth + Bone.” She’s collaborated on several projects including the multi-award winning “Tracing the Migrant Journey” series. She can be heard on NPR\, the Fronteras Desk\, Code Switch\, Here & Now\, Science Friday\, Marketplace\, National Native News\, and the BBC. She’s known for her inclusion of diverse voices\, for crafting powerful stories\, and for collaborating with a team to complete projects on time with humor\, emotional intelligence\, and constructive feedback.

They will create their own figure using crayola model magic and acrylic paint. \nAges 11-13 \n\n\n\n\n\nHow to Create a Manga Story by Jasmine Serpas \nSaturday\, November 5th\, 2022 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. \nRegister Here\nManga is a style of Japanese comic/novel for children and adults to read. Students will create a story using their own characters or characters that they already know. They will have different sizes of sharpies to draw on a three page layout to create their own story. \nAges 11-13 \n\n\n\n\n\n“Home” by Jingwen Li \nSaturday\, November 12th\, 2022 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. \nRegister Here\nIn this session\, participants will be taken on a narrative journey into the life of a “child refugee.” Participants will work together on a long scroll with the theme of “home” using traditional Chinese painting techniques\, constructing a vivid and imaginative “home” for the “child refugee” with their hands. \nAges 6-13 \n\n\n\n\n\nHOME SMACKDOWN! by Kaylee Cossey \nSaturday\, November 19th\, 2022 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. \nRegister Here\nStudents will be able to create their own imprints of a home on a piece of foam to then “smackdown” on their fall themed background. The notion of “smackdown” is the process of stamping or pressing firmly down on their foam to create a printed image. Once students create their relief prints\, they will end up with a neighborhood full of their own unique little homes! \nAges 11-13 \n\n\n\n  \n
