With his highly individualistic approach to music making and the music industry\, one that cherishes intimacy\, community\, mystery\, and spontaneity; his brilliance has captivated fans and made Bonnie one of our most influential and beloved songsmiths. \nBonnie “Prince” Billy’s latest offerings include the 2019’s I Made a Place\, 2020’s Superwolves (with Matt Sweeney) and Blind Date Party\, a collaborative album consisting of covers made with Bill Callahan during the pandemic lockdown. 2023 will see the release of his first children’s book\, based on the song “Shorty’s Ark” (from Superwolves)\, as well as a new proper BPB record of new songs. \n\n\n\n\nLaurel Premo is known for her rhythmically deep and rapt delivery of roots music on fiddle\, guitar\, and vocals. Her solo performances dive deep into traditional and new fiddle music\, musically revealing a bloom of underlying harmonic drones\, minimalist repetition\, and rich polyrhythms. DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets\nMama’s Broke have spent the past eight years in a near-constant state of transience\, pounding the transatlantic tour trail. They’ve brought their dark\, fiery folk-without-borders sound to major festivals and DIY punk houses alike\, absorbing traditions from their maritime home in Eastern Canada all the way to Ireland and Indonesia. Nowhere is the duo’s art-in-motion approach more apparent than on their long-awaited sophomore record Narrow Line (May 13\, 2022 on Free Dirt Records); it’s the sound of nowhere in particular\, yet woven with a rich synthesis of influences that knows no borders. It earned them a JUNO nomination for Traditional Roots Album of the Year 2022. The eleven songs on Narrow Line burrow deeply\, with close harmony duets\, commanding vocals\, and poignant contemplations on cycles of life\, including birth and death. Tinges of Americana stand side-by-side with the ghosts of Eastern European fiddle tunes and ancient a cappella ballad singing\, melding into an unusually accessible dark-folk sound. A careful listen of Narrow Line invokes an ephemeral sense of place—whether real or imagined—inviting us to take comfort in the infinite possibilities of life\, whether or not we ever choose to settle down.  \nFor a group defined by constant touring\, it’s not surprising that the two artists that make up Mama’s Broke\, Lisa Maria and Amy Lou Keeler\, met on the road. As Lisa remembers it\, “Amy was driving her old Mercedes from Montreal to Nova Scotia and I was looking for a ride. We spent the 17 hours in the car talking almost exclusively about music. By the time we reached Halifax we started playing together\, and within a week or two became a band.” Both coming out of traveling communities that are focused on music and protest\, the two owe the way in which they move through the world to the integrated and self-sustaining nature of DIY culture and activism. It was a busy life that took them on a roundabout annual touring schedule running between Canada\, the United States\, Ireland\, the UK\, and Europe. DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets\nUp Next Flagstaff is a new series at Coconino Center for the Arts that is proud to showcase local emerging artists. For its premiere concert in the series CCA brings to the stage two local acts\, The Carbonics and Cameron Jameson. This concert is Pay What You Can. Proceeds go to support performing artists in the series. \n \nThe Carbonics are an alternative rock band founded in Flagstaff in 2022. Their sound combines a pop sensibility with strong roots in folk\, blues\, and soul. The result is emotionally compelling songs with catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics. They can fill a dance floor with an infectious bass groove or spin a contemplative yarn to a listening room. Hints of contemporary influences like Nathaniel Rateliff\, the Lumineers\, and Vampire Weekend can be heard in their music\, along with legendary songwriters from Otis Redding to Bruce Springsteen. \nThe band got its start when lead singer and songwriter Bryan Griffith\, an accomplished visual artist\, began writing music as a new creative outlet when all of his art exhibitions were canceled due to Covid-19. After the pandemic\, Griffith recruited lead guitarist Sam Williams\, bassist Mike Handforth\, and drummer Beau Santillan to help bring those songs and more to life. \n \nCameron Jameson is a born and raised flagstaff local who is bringing fresh original music through his band Piso Mojado and is now taking the stage with a solo performance! With influences from Ed Sheeran\, Taylor Swift\, and Jason Mraz he’s bringing fun acoustic music to every show he plays! \n  \nThis concert is Pay What You Can.
